The board doesn’t care about gender. It responds to skill, focus and determination, qualities that countless women in darts embody. The sport is evolving and women are leading that charge, one bullseye at a time. Allow me to introduce Gréta Tekauer, a 22-year-old darts talent from Hungary. She began her darting journey in March 2022 with her home club, Érd-El SE.

Name: Gréta Tekauer
Age: 22 (born February 4, 2003)
Nationality: Hungarian
Dartclub: Érd-El SE
Walk-on music: Imagine Dragons – Bones
What was the exact moment you looked at a dartboard and thought ‘Yes, this is how I want to spend my life missing the treble 20’?
I started playing around March 2022, at my club, Érd-El SE and I wanted to understand what’s the meaning of doing this sport.
Okay, be honest, what’s your favorite part of darts? The thrill of hitting that perfect 180? The sound of the crowd?
The feeling of doing it, the travels, the events, the people, it’s a whole different world.
Alright, time to brag, what’s your ‘I’ll be boring my grandkids with this story’ darts moment so far?
Winning my first WDF title and that I could have played on the iconic Lakeside stage.

At what point did your casual dart-throwing habit become a full-blown addiction?
When I started playing, my first bigger competition was in Iceland, some of the hungarian players wanted to go there and asked me if I would like to join them.
What’s the real hardest part of going pro as a woman? Is it the pressure, the doubters or just constantly being asked ‘So do you, like, actually compete against men?’ like it’s some shocking plot twist?
I would say the failures, but after you realize that’s how you can learn it’s easier to deal with them. I mean if somebody would tell you that you are 40 failures away to succeed, how much would you like to fail?
What’s been the toughest boss battle as a woman in darts?
The sponsoring, since there are not many events, where you can win as much money as a man player. And I would also mention the trans players, it’s hard to deal with those situations that they can give mentally to women players.

Let’s talk about the hilarious myth that darts is a ‘men’s game’, Have you faced any comments or attitudes suggesting darts is a “men’s game”? How do you respond?
Not really, but sometimes it happens that men think I am a woman, it’s gonna be easy to win… yeah those are the biggest motivation to beat them, sometimes I even bet that time, just to make it more fun.
Let’s play darts or discrimination, do you feel women get equal opportunities in darts… or are we still stuck in the ‘participation trophy’ phase of equality?
I think so, women players have less opportunities than men players, we have less competitions and way less prize money, which is only a problem if you want live from professional darts.
Let’s be real, if women’s darts got the media coverage it deserved, would we be trending… or would the internet break from men realizing we don’t actually throw with glittery darts? Do you think women’s darts gets enough media coverage?
I think it’s started to get better, than it was before, hopefully it will increase more!

Do women in darts need to hit two 180s back-to-back just to get the same respect as a dude who accidentally checked out on a bounce-out? So do you think women are held to higher standards to prove themselves in darts?
It depends on mentality I guess, if you want to be in the top players then yes it will be way harder than just to go to events and having fun.
What’s at the top of your equality wishlist, bigger prizes, fewer ‘cute effort’ comments or just a lifetime supply of eye rolls for every ‘women can’t handle pressure’ take?
I would like to see changes in the prize money, so more players could do it as a living.
Future dart queens, listen up! What advice would you give to young girls wanting to play darts?
Get ready because it’s gonna challenge you in every aspect of your life. You will need to take all your chances you get by being ready, brave and confident! And always be thankful for those opportunities!
